An Aerial View of the Mansion

It is not very often that we are able to see the mansion from above, which is why it was exciting that we recently took some unique aerial photos.  During recent work on the mansion’s façade, we found someone on staff with no fear of heights to go up on the lift and take aerial shots of the building, with the Hudson in the background.  This view really allows you to see the work that was done on the mansion since 2013.  The white front portico glistens and the copper on the new roof shines.  You can see the new portico whenever you approach the mansion, but the new roof is a little harder to showcase!

Enjoy this series of photos!

Our staff member rode this lift many feet above the ground and was able to get a better look at the mansion from a unique perspective.

The south end of the mansion was restored in the early 2000s and informed the process of the most recent restoration work on the east portico.

As the lift rose higher and higher, the perspective on the mansion changed and the sections of the restored facade became even more visually apparent.

The front portico was fully restored last year (2014) and the painted stucco on the front now glistens as it would have in 1896.  For a look at the history of the portico check out our previous blogs HERE and HERE.

From this vantage point, you can get a great glimpse of Staatsburgh's newly repaired roof.  We can now protect our collections without worrying about water damage.

The carriage road approaching the mansion winds its way throughout the park.  Approaching the building with a winding road provides several excellent vantage points to view the imposing stature of the home.  The landscape design integrated the road into the natural features of the landscape and helped to create a pastoral setting.  If you visit us for a tour, you will follow this same road into the parking lot.
